Paper models are three-dimensional objects made from paper or cardboard. Paper is a versatile craft material that lets you turn an idea into a model without complicated tools. It can be stiff or flexible, thick or thin, plain or glossy, and it can be coloured almost any way you like.
Printed paper models became more widespread through magazines in the early twentieth century. The hobby gained popularity during the Second World War, when paper was more readily available than many other materials.
Models published in England from 1941 included buildings, aircraft and trains. Interest later declined as plastic model kits became more common.
The internet gave paper modelling a new way to grow: templates could be shared, printed and assembled at home. Companies such as Canon and Yamaha also began offering paper models for promotional purposes.
Today, many designs are available online for free or at a modest price. Home printing also makes it possible to build some models at different scales.
On our site, you can find free paper models and the software needed to build them, without registration or SMS. We hope the hobby brings you as much enjoyment as it brings us.
